Mets sign OF Edward Olivares to minor league deal

Date:

The Mets made a number of minor league deals official on Friday including outfielder Edward Olivares.

Oliveres, 28, has spent his five-year career with the Padres, Royals and most recently the Pirates. The Venezuelan native played 55 games with the Pirates in 2024 where he slashed .224/.291/.333 with five home runs and 23 RBI. His best season as a pro came the year prior with the Royals. That season, Olivares hit .263 with 12 home runs and 36 RBI — along with 11 stolen bases — in 107 games.

Over his five-year career (285 games), Olivares has a .254 average, 29 home runs and 96 RBI.

The outfielder is invited to spring training camp.

In addition to Olivares, the Mets confirmed the signings of RHP Grant Hartwig and former top prospect Alex Ramirez after they were both non-tendered in November.

Hartwig, 26, pitched just 6.2 innings, allowing six runs (five earned) with the Mets in 2024 before his year ended in June when he underwent surgery to repair a torn meniscus in his right knee.

Ramirez, 21, struggled in Double-A in 2024. He slashed just .210/.291/.299 in 123 games after putting up a .627 OPS in Highh-A the year prior.
