EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — Two men are facing charges after they became confrontational during a traffic stop Wednesday evening, Dec. 4, in far East El Paso, according to the Socorro Independent School District (ISD) Police Department.
Socorro ISD Police say a unit attempted a traffic stop at around 4 p.m. that Wednesday on a vehicle for several alleged traffic violations. The vehicle was being driven by Benny Carlos Galvan, 27, and Darmian Alonso Galvan, 21, was the passenger.
Benny Galvan attempted to avoid the traffic stop and drove through the Summerstone Apartment Complex located at 1411 Bob Hope, at a high rate of speed, according to SISD Police.
The vehicle then came to a stop and both Benny and Darmian Galvan exited the vehicle and became confrontational with the officer, according to SISD Police. Darmian Galvan also attempted to interfere with the traffic stop while the officer tried to de-escalate the situation, police say.
Both men were arrested after additional units arrived. After the arrests, a pat-down was conducted and a handgun was located on Benny Galvan, SISD Police said.
Benny Galvan is charged with evading arrest, resisting arrest, and unlawful carrying of a weapon. Darmian Galvan is charged with interference with public duties.
SISD Police said the incident happened away from any district property and did not disrupt any nearby schools.
