West Ham have confirmed that forward Michail Antonio is in stable condition after being involved in a car accident.
The news arrived on Saturday as the player’s name was linked with lingering rumours on social media.
The club issued the following statement on the incident regarding the 34-year-old Jamaican:
“West Ham United can confirm that Michail Antonio is in a stable condition following a road traffic accident this afternoon in the Essex area.
“Michail is conscious and communicating and is currently under close supervision at a central London hospital.
“At this difficult time, we kindly ask everyone to respect the privacy of Michail and his family.”
West Ham then confirmed they will provide further updates later this week.
