Man Utd ‘lead the way’ to sign 18yo ‘breakout star’ ahead of Chelsea and Tottenham – report

Manchester United are leading Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur in the race to sign Southampton wonderkid Tyler Dibling, according to Sunday Mirror.

The Red Devils have had a stuttering start under new manager Ruben Amorim. They began well with two wins and a draw, but have since suffered back-to-back losses.

Amorim is likely to be backed with new signings next year and Sunday Mirror claim that United ‘lead the way’ ahead of Chelsea and Tottenham to recruit Dibling.

The 18-year-old has been described as the Premier League’s ‘breakout star’ of the season. United could have an advantage due to technical director Jason Wilcox.

Wilcox handed the winger his first professional contract during his time as Saints’ director of football.

Dibling could be Quenda’s alternative for Amorim

The wonderkid has produced several stand-out performances this campaign despite Southampton being rooted at the bottom of the Premier League standings.

Dibling has made three goal contributions for the Saints, but has also caught the eye with his dribbling skills. He averages 1.6 successful take-ons per appearance.

The teenager has also worked hard defensively with 5.1 duels and 2.6 recoveries per outing. At 18, Dibling has become a mainstay in the Saints XI and he could join a bigger club soon.

United could be his next destination depending on Amorim’s stance. The Portuguese has his sights on landing Sporting CP wonderkid Geovany Quenda to compete with Amad Diallo at right wing-back.

If he is open to an alternative solution, Dibling could emerge as a realistic target. One thing is for sure that the Saints are likely to demand a premium fee with the increasing interest in their prized asset.

United should have an edge over Chelsea and Spurs due to Wilcox’s presence. Dibling could turn down the Blues, having spent just two months in their academy in 2022 before returning to the Saints.
