“That is what I would like to see from everybody else”: Virat Kohli’s big step after twin failures in second Test impresses Sunil Gavaskar

Date:

Virat Kohli has started preparations for the third Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25, set to start next Saturday in Brisbane, as he hit the nets after Australia won the second game by 10 wickets at the Adelaide Oval on Sunday.

The series is levelled 1-1. Kohli, who failed miserably against New Zealand, bounced back in the second innings of the series opener in Perth, scoring a hundred, his 81st in international cricket. However, the right-handed batter amassed just 7 and 11 in the two innings in the pink-ball Test.

Moments after India’s failure in Adelaide, Kohli returns to the nets to get ready for the third Test.

The sight of Virat practising impressed former player Sunil Gavaskar, who urged the other Indian players to follow the star batter. The legendary cricketer admitted that Kohli was below-par in the second game but reckoned that the top batter could return to scoring ways in Gabba.

“It shows his dedication. He went straight to the nets after the team’s defeat in Adelaide. I would like to see other Indian players following him. He didn’t score runs in the second Test but he feels proud to play for India and contribute in the success of the team. He is there in the nets,” Sunil Gavaskar said on Star Sports.

“He is working hard and that is you want to see from an Indian player. If you get out after all your preparations, it is not a bad thing as it happens in sport. He is trying his best by putting in the effort. I won’t be surprised if he scores runs in the next Test,” he added.

Kohli has been a part of just one red-ball game in Brisbane in 2014, where he accumulated 19 and 1 against Australia.
