In an interview with Canal+, Kylian Mbappé (25) has claimed that he would have extended his contract at Paris Saint-Germain if it would have helped his younger brother Ethan Mbappé (17).
It can be easily forgotten that over the summer PSG lost not one but two Mbappés. The Mbappé brothers both left the club at the end of their contracts, Kylian Mbappé famously went on to Real Madrid while Ethan Mbappé joined Lille OSC.
It is widely accepted that Ethan Mbappé was a collateral victim of PSG’s feud with Kylian Mbappé. The younger brother had broken through the ranks at Les Parisien’s academy and was in talks over a contract extension with the club.
Kylian Mbappé: “What Real meant to me… PSG meant to him”
However, once news broke that Kylian Mbappé was not going to leave the club at the end of his contract, the contract extension was allegedly no longer forthcoming for Ethan Mbappé. As Kylian Mbappé explained to Canal+, “It’s the thing that affected me the most.”
“He (Ethan), he didn’t ask for anything. His Real Madrid was PSG. What Real meant to me, his childhood dream, was PSG,” Kylian Mbappé continued, “At one point, I even told him: ‘If you want me to, I’ll extend [my contract] and you can stay, we’ll stay here.’ I would have given up my dream of Madrid and stayed for him.”
However, as he explains, “Ethan told me… ‘I don’t want to stay here. What they did to you, what they did to me, it’s not normal.’ If he had told me: ‘Kylian, it’s what I want.’ I would have given up my dream of Madrid and stayed for him.”
