Is Artificial Intelligence a threat to jobs in India, or does it promise to create new opportunities? Priyank Kharge, Karnataka’s Minister for IT and Biotechnology, addresses these pressing questions in an exclusive discussion with Business Today TV’s Editor, Siddharth Zarabi, at the #BTAIConference2024. Drawing on historical parallels, Priyank Kharge recalls the fears sparked by the advent of computers, when many believed that technology would lead to mass unemployment. However, the opposite happened, with technology paving the way for India’s IT boom. Today, Karnataka alone contributes ₹4.2 lakh crore in IT exports annually, driving nation-building and elevating living standards. He believes AI will follow a similar path—being disruptive at first but ultimately opening up avenues for new kinds of jobs.
