Bill Belichick: Couple of good conversations with UNC, we’ll see where it goes

Date:

Former Patriots head coach Bill Belichick confirmed on Monday that he has met with the University of North Carolina about their head coaching vacancy.

During an appearance on The Pat McAfee Show, Belichick said that he has spoken with UNC Chancellor Lee Roberts multiple times.

“We’ve had a couple of good conversations, so we’ll see how it goes,” Belichick said.

McAfee followed up by telling Belichick that Adam Schefter of ESPN said that one of the meetings between the two men lasted for five hours. Belichick said he was going to “get my press conference aura back” while passing on offering any further detail about his discussions with Roberts.

Belichick noted that “it seems like college football is more like pro football” because of things like NIL and the transfer portal and he said he would build “an NFL program at the college level” if things go that way. He said he is “very confident” that a such program would be a “pipeline” into the league for players, but it remains to be seen if one of the NFL’s winningest coaches will be headed to the collegiate ranks.
