The ball is in Bill Belichick’s court.
The long-time NFL coach — who worked at that level every year from 1975 through 2023 — is considering an offer to become the next head coach at North Carolina, according to TheAthletic.com.
Belichick has acknowledged the talks with the Tar Heels. With the cat out of the bag for nearly a week now, any other NFL owner or college program that has interest in hiring Belichick needs to move, quickly.
Per the report, negotiations are ongoing. Obviously, Belichick will want a large chunk of change to coach the team. There’s also a belief he’s hoping to create a succession plan, with his son, Steve, replacing Bill at some point while Bill serves as coach emeritus, essentially.
Combined with Belichick’s plan to create a program that will essentially prepare players for the NFL, it would basically be Belichick University.
Which hopefully will go better than other universities that have carried the names of other prominent individuals.
