“Playing with freedom” – Bellingham speaks after starring in Real Madrid’s win over Atalanta

Real Madrid preserved their sanctity in the UEFA Champions League with a narrow win over Atalanta on Tuesday evening.

The star attacking trio of Jude Bellingham, Kylian Mbappe and Vinicius Junior were at the forefront, with each scoring a goal.

Bellingham, in particular, was a top performer on the night as he continues his brilliant run of form, of late.

Bellingham on his recent form

Speaking to Micah Richards and Alessandro Del Piero after the game, Bellingham talked about his recent run of form, admitting that he is now playing with more freedom.

“I’m at my best when I play with freedom. I had meetings with Carlo who helped me find that freedom again,” he said (h/t CBS Sports).

Bellingham has indeed been in top form lately, racking up four goals and two assists in his last five matches.

Talking about his goal on the night, the midfielder added, “I didn’t know where the ball was going, I thought it would hit my back and everyone would laugh at me. But I got it and went 1v1 with the defender.”

Bellingham on the road ahead

The former Dortmund starlet went on to talk about Real Madrid’s road forward, especially ahead of a gruelling January schedule.

“I think we have many levels to go, the fundamental things are what was letting us down,” he said.

Talking about his own contribution in Real Madrid’s success, the midfielder added, “We won a lot last season, but I am desperate to do it again and many times for this club.”

“I always want to affect the game with goals and assists, but it’s important I do the rest of my job as well. I now have the sniff back for it, hopefully more is coming,” he concluded.
