MONTCALM TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — Two 19-year-olds were injured when a pickup truck crashed into the trailer of a semi-truck Tuesday evening in Montcalm Township, deputies say.
It happened around 8:20 p.m. Tuesday on S. Greenville Road, slightly south of Spencer Road, according to the Montcalm County Sheriff’s Office.
Investigators say a 2019 Peterbilt tractor with a loaded box trailer was backing into a driveway on the east side of Greenville Road. As the Peterbilt faced south and the trailer was across the northbound lane, a 2003 Chevy Silverado approached, heading north. The Silverado could not stop in time and ended up hitting the side of the box trailer, according to the sheriff’s office.
The Silverado’s driver, a 19-year-old McBride man, and passenger, a 19-year-old McBride woman, were taken to the hospital with injuries that were not considered life-threatening, deputies say. They say the two 19-year-olds were not wearing seat belts.
The driver of the Peterbilt, described by authorities as a 32-year-old Greenville man, was not hurt.
Deputies are investigating. They believe speed was involved in the crash.
