All fears around Jasprit Bumrah’s fitness were answered by the bowler himself on Thursday when he returned to the nets in Gabba for a full-tilt training session ahead of the third Test against Australia in Brisbane, beginning December 14.
According to an Australian Associated Press (AAP) report, “…Bumrah completed a full warm up with his Indian teammates on the field Thursday before bowling in their main session.”
India’s over dependence on Jasprit Bumrah visible in Adelaide
Bumrah had an injury scare when he broke down briefly during the second Test in Adelaide and skipped training after that, with led to debates around his fitness and workload.
On Thursday, Bumrah started his warm-up with a few gentle leg-break deliveries to roll his arm over. He then bowled full steam, including a spell with the new ball to Rohit, which also dropped hints about the India captain returning to the opening slot after batting in the middle order during the pink-ball Test in Adelaide.
Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj and Akash Deep bowled at Rohit with the new ball. If Rohit joins Jaiswal as opener in Brisbane, KL Rahul will drop back to the middle order.
Additionally, the report states that Rahul’s second hit in the nets on Thursday was with the used ball, which further fueled speculations around Rohit and Rahul swapping batting positions.
Rohit batted at No. 6 in Adelaide and scored 3 and 6 in the two innings, failing to rediscover his run-scoring form that has eluded the batting icon for some time now. In his 10 Test innings before the game in Adelaide, Rohit scored just 133 runs at an average of 13.10.
