Bill Belichick reportedly reached out to Jets about coaching vacancy

Date:

The Jets could have had a bad Bill.

Only two days after Bill Belichick was introduced as the next head coach at North Carolina, multiple reports have emerged that Belichick personally reached out to the New York Jets about its vacancy.

It’s laughable that Belichick made the inquiry. He notoriously quit as coach of the Jets in 2000, writing the message on a cocktail napkin, “I resign as HC of the NYJ.”

And he quit because he didn’t want to work for Woody Johnson. Also, after Johnson fired coach Robert Saleh, creating the opening about which Belichick inquired, Belichick criticized Johnson publicly.

“That’s kind of what it’s been there at the Jets — barely won over 30 percent in the last 10 years,” Belichick said on the ManningCast during a Bills-Jets game. “The owner being the owner, just ready, fire, aim.”

Here’s the real question. Why is it coming out now? We’ll assume Belichick wanted it to happen, since he’s betting that Woody will once again make a bad hire, and that Jets fans will wonder what might have been, if Bill would have come back to the job he had for like a day.
