BYU’s Richie Saunders provides injury update after collision against Wyoming

Date:

The BYU Cougars men’s basketball team could be without two starters as Big 12 Conference play nears.

On Sunday morning, Richie Saunders posted on his Instagram story that sustained a concussion and a “busted lip” Saturday night in the Cougars’ 68-49 win over the Wyoming Cowboys at the Delta Center in Salt Lake City.

No timeline has been given regarding when Saunders could return to action.

Early in the first half Saturday, Saunders collided with Wyoming’s Jordan Nesbitt. Saunders stayed down on the floor for a time, and when he got up, he had a bloody lip.

As the Deseret News’ Jay Drew reported, BYU announced later in the first half that Saunders would be evaluated further at halftime, and Saunders did not play the rest of the contest, finishing with two points and a steal.

BYU has already been without freshman phenom Egor Demin for two games now because of a knee injury and he could be out at least another week.

Thankfully for the Cougars their schedule is light over the next two weeks with only a game against Florida A&M this Friday. If the injury woes remain over an extended period of time however, BYU could find itself in a tough spot as Big 12 play begins Dec. 31 at home against Arizona State.
