Moment German Highway Bridge Blown Up in Controlled Explosion

Date:

A large highway bridge near Dortmund, Germany, that dated back to 1961 was blown up in a controlled explosion on Sunday, December 15.

Autobahn Westfalen said the 63-year-old bridge had significant deficiencies and was subject to load restrictions for heavy goods vehicles. Part of the bridge had already been rebuilt adjacent to the old one.

The original date for the demolition was set for November 17, but technical problems forced it to be postponed until December, WDR reported.
