Kylian Mbappé’s (25) divorce from former club Paris Saint-Germain has been a messy one. Upon the completion of his seventh and final season at the Parc des Princes, the France captain left PSG on a free transfer to join Real Madrid.
Prior to his departure, Mbappé saw his game time reduced under Luis Enrique, as Les Parisiens prepared for life without their main man, whilst there was also talk of tensions between the player and the club’s owner Nasser Al-Khelaifi, who was reportedly angry with Mbappé’s decision to leave the club. That came after he had been ostracised from the first-team set-up the previous summer as PSG tried to force him towards the exit door. It was a move done in order to garner a fee, rather than lose him on a free transfer as, of course, they ultimately did.
Since leaving, Mbappé has been embroiled in a wage dispute with his former club. The last three months of his contract, as well as bonuses, were not paid. He has therefore sought counsel in order to receive payment, with the two parties in an ongoing dispute.
It is within this context that Mbappé, appearing in an extract of beUNITED on beIN Sports said, “I am still Parisian but I’m [just] a fan now,” said the France captain during a clip in which he spoke with a group of people about the clubs that they support.
