DP World Tour suspends player 3 months for sports betting on golf events

Date:

The DP World Tour announced Wednesday that member Marco Penge has been suspended three months, with one month deferred, for placing multiple bets on golf events.

Penge, a 26-year-old from England, did not bet on himself or on the progress of tournaments during days when he was participating, per the DP World Tour release. An independent panel found the integrity of events he bet on was not compromised.

The suspension was effective Dec. 13, 2024, and he’ll be eligible to compete again on Feb. 13. Penge was also fined 2,000 Euros.

Penge was in violation of DP World Tour regulation 3(a)(i), which states “no covered person shall either directly o indirectly bet or instruct any other person to bet on the result, progress, conduct or any other aspect of any professional or elite amateur golf event anywhere in the world.”

Penge is ranked 414th in the world and recently tied for 27th at the ISPS Handa Australian Open.
