DP World Tour pro suspended for three months for violating gambling policy

Date:

DP World Tour member Marco Penge has been suspended for two months after the circuit found that he had placed bets on multiple events.

The tour’s disciplinary panel found that the 26-year-old Englishman did not wager on himself or during any tournament days while he was competing, determining that “the integrity of such events had not been compromised.”

However, Penge still violated the tour’s integrity program and was suspended until mid-February. He was also fined roughly $2,500. His penalties, the tour said, were mitigated because of his cooperation and immediate admission of the breaches. The suspension took effect on Dec. 13.

Penge, who most recently played at the Australian Open in late November, is ranked No. 414 in the world and is coming off a year in which he missed 19 cuts in 28 events. He was recently featured on the DP World Tour’s social channels after he made a 5-foot par putt on his final hole to make the cut at the Genesis Championship to give himself a chance to secure his playing privileges for 2025. He called the putt the most nervous he had ever been in his career – “I was s—ing myself, to be fair,” he said.

Penge ultimately finished 110th in the season-long Race to Dubai standings, just enough to keep his card.

Penge has not yet publicly commented on the suspension.
