Oklahoma basketball coach Porter Moser sends strong message on Sooners’ mentality after win over Michigan | Sporting News

Date:

In one of the most epic finishes to a college basketball game this season, Oklahoma beat Michigan 87-86 on a four-point play with 11 seconds to go. With the win, Oklahoma became one of three teams in the SEC with an undefeated 11-0 record.

Sooners freshman Jeremiah Fears hit the game-winning three, fading to his left and getting fouled on the shot. Fears dropped 30 points on 8/12 shooting and knocked down three of his four 3-point attempts, showing the world why he is a projected first-round pick in the 2025 NBA Draft.

Fears is averaging 17.9 points and 4.6 assists this season. The potential lottery pick has nailed 49.6% of his field goal attempts, 34.1% of his 3-pointers, and 85.9% of his free throws.

Oklahoma head coach Porter Moser commented on his team’s toughness after a game in which the Sooners trailed by as much as 11 in the second half.

“This team can take a punch and punch back,” Moser said, per Steve Reed of The Telegraph. “That’s the sign of a resilient team. There are so many good teams in college basketball that you better be able to take a punch.”

Oklahoma basketball is ramping up for an exciting January of SEC hoops

Oklahoma will play two unranked underdogs to finish off December, but the Sooners have an absolute gauntlet of SEC threats in their January schedule. Moser’s squad will start the first month of 2025 with No.6 Alabama and No. 12 Texas A&M before taking on Georgia and Texas.

This year’s SEC is undoubtedly one of the strongest conferences in college basketball history. 15 of 16 SEC teams have won nine games or more, and there are nine teams with at least 10 wins (three undefeated teams including Oklahoma).

Oklahoma will return to action one more time before Christmas. The Sooners will host Central Arkansas on Dec. 22 with a 12-0 record on the line.
