Fonseca message to Theo Hernandez: ‘Milan need Jimenez energy’

Paulo Fonseca sent a very specific warning to Theo Hernandez after another impressive Alex Jimenez performance for Milan. ‘We need someone with this energy and desire to run hard.’

The coach dropped star man Theo Hernandez for the second consecutive Serie A match, instead picking the 19-year-old talent at left-back.

The Real Madrid youth academy product has been very good in both the 0-0 draw with Genoa and this evening’s 1-0 victory away to Hellas Verona.

When asked if the situation is going to change soon, Fonseca sent a very clear message to Theo Hernandez.

“Jimenez is the first choice at the moment, because he started the last two matches,” said the coach in his press conference.

“Alex worked hard, he was decisive and he needs continue like this. We need someone with this energy, this desire to run hard. If it’s a kid or not, that doesn’t interest me.”

Does that mean Fonseca will continue picking Jimenez ahead of Theo Hernandez?

“He just has to keep going like this. We’ll see in what position, as today he also played in a more advanced wide role.”

When Rafael Leao went off injured, Theo Hernandez came off the bench and moved Jimenez further up the field in the 4-2-3-1 formation.

His versatility could prove handy, because Jimenez plays right-back for the Milan Futuro youth team in Serie C.
