Dow Snaps 10-Day Losing Streak. S&P 500 Falls.

Date:

The Dow just barely snapped its longest losing streak since 1974, after some dip buying earlier in the morning fizzled as the trading day unfolded.

The blue-chip index rose just 16 points, or 0.04%, to end its losing streak at 10 sessions. The S&P 500 and Nasdaq Composite slid in the final half-hour of trading to close down 0.1% each.

A majority of S&P 500 stocks closed lower for the 14th trading day in a row. Its longest streak of negative breadth was previously a 10-day stretch in 2000, according to Dow Jones Market Data numbers that go back to Dec. 31, 1999.
