This past summer, Nico Williams of Athletic Club caught the attention of several top clubs, including Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester City, Manchester United, Tottenham, Barcelona, and Paris Saint-Germain.
Following a standout 2023-24 season, where he played 37 matches and helped Athletic Club secure the 2024 Copa del Rey, Williams also played a crucial part in Spain’s victory at UEFA Euro 2024 in Germany.
This season, Williams has registered two goals and five assists in 22 appearances for Athletic Club. According to The Athletic, he is growing more open to the idea of moving abroad.
While Barcelona is well aware of the potential terms, the final decision will be in Williams’ hands. Meanwhile, Premier League clubs such as Manchester United, Tottenham, Arsenal, and Chelsea are all considering him for a move next summer.
Bayern Munich and PSG are also keeping an eye on his progress, with the Parisian club having already reached out to his representatives last summer.
Manchester United attempt to garner an edge for Nico Williams
Rúben Amorim has singled out Williams as the ideal replacement for Marcus Rashford. The 22-year-old has been linked with a move to Barcelona for some time, but financial issues at the La Liga club blocked a transfer during the summer.
Spanish outlet El Desmarque reports that Manchester United have already contacted Williams’ agent and are prepared to activate his €60 million (£50 million) release clause if Rashford is sold. Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain are also reportedly interested in securing the winger’s signature.
Recently, Sky Sports Germany’s Florian Plettenberg reported that Bayern Munich are keeping an eye on Williams as they look ahead to next summer’s transfer window.
