DeSean Jackson finalizing deal to become head coach at Delaware State

Date:

Former NFL wide receiver DeSean Jackson is poised to join the college football coaching ranks.

Jackson is finalizing a deal to become head coach at Delaware State, according to multiple reports.

It continues a recent trend of former NFL players with little to no coaching experience becoming college head coaches. Michael Vick was recently hired at Norfolk State, Eddie George is head coach at Tennessee State and Deion Sanders went from Jackson State to Colorado. Ed Reed was briefly hired at Bethune-Cookman but departed 25 days later.

The 38-year-old Jackson played his college football at Cal and was drafted by the Eagles in 2008. He spent six seasons in Philadelphia, three in Washington, two in Tampa Bay and then had brief later stints with the Eagles again, the Rams, Raiders and Ravens. He was a three-time Pro Bowler and one of the NFL’s best big-play receivers and returners.
