Lima woman charged for leaving scene of fatal crash

Date:

Dec. 26—WAPAKONETA — A Lima woman pleaded not guilty Monday in Auglaize County Common Pleas Court to felony charges of reckless homicide, aggravated vehicular homicide and failure to stop after a crash. The charges stem from an Oct. 8 traffic crash that left one man dead.

According to a report from the Ohio State Highway Patrol, Bailey Luckett, 24, was traveling northbound on Interstate 75 near the Auglaize County rest area when she stopped on the roadway in front of a semi-truck driven by Jesus Perez, 50, of Hazleton, Pennsylvania, forcing him to stop. Luckett exited her vehicle and confronted Perez and a vehicle driven by David Shutt, 44, of Lima, rear-ended the semi. Luckett then fled the scene and was located later. It was not clear why she had stopped in the roadway or why she had approached Perez.

Shutt was pronounced dead on the scene. Luckett and Perez were not injured in the crash.

Following her arraignment on the third-degree felony charges, Luckett was released on an own-recognizance bond.
