The legendary Sachin Tendulkar has accepted his nomination as an honorary member of the historic Melbourne Cricket Club, the latter announced on social media earlier on Friday, December 27. The Melbourne Cricket Club is host to the Melbourne Cricket Ground, where the ongoing Boxing Day Test between Australia and India is taking place.
After being bowled out for 474 in their first innings, Australia managed to restrict India to 164-5 in 46 overs at the close of play on Day 2. The Border Gavaskar Trophy, for whom this Test is being played, is tied 1-1 at the moment, with India having won the first match in Perth, and Australia responding with a resounding victory in the second in Adelaide. The third Test in Brisbane was drawn.
The Melbourne Cricket Club (MCC) is one of the oldest sports clubs in Australia and was founded in the year 1838. The club is responsible for managing and developing the MCG; this was a power given to it by a trust appointed by the government. The club can also reserve 20 per cent of the seats in the stadium for its members.
