89% ground duels, 98% passing: 9/10 Arsenal star was terrific vs Ipswich Town, better than Kai Havertz – opinion

Arsenal picked up their second straight Premier League win following a 1-0 triumph over Ipswich Town at the Emirates Stadium.

The Gunners had a comfortable game against the Tractor Boys on Friday night. They had early scares in both halves, but Ipswich did not muster a single shot on target.

Arsenal were defensively comfortable over 90 minutes. Kai Havertz scored the solitary goal, but Myles Lewis-Skelly was the best player on the pitch in our view.

The 18-year-old has exceeded expectations from the left-back role. He started his third successive league game yesterday and delivered an outstanding performance.

The youngster won 89 percent of his ground duels with a passing accuracy of 98 percent.

He completed 100 percent of his crosses and lost possession on only four occasions over 90 minutes.

Lewis-Skelly’s breakthrough was forced on the manager with injuries. He has made a huge impression on Mikel Arteta with his performances over the past few weeks.

He got the nod in the left-back position yesterday despite Riccardo Calafiori and Oleksandr Zinchenko being available for selection after respective injury concerns.

Calafiori made an instant impact off the bench last weekend with an assist, but Arteta chose to pick Lewis-Skelly, who repaid his faith with another stand-out showing.

Lewis-Skelly received a 9/10 rating from Goal for his performance, and it remains to be seen whether he will keep his place for the visit of Brentford on New Year’s Day.

Arteta could go with Calafiori over Lewis-Skelly due to his better physical and aerial presence.

The Italian could fare better against Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo. However, we won’t be surprised if the Gunners graduate is picked to start for the fourth straight league game.
