Two weeks ago, the Timberwolves Anthony Edwards was fined $25,000 by the league for using profanity during a postgame interview. That message didn’t get through to him as the league office hoped, so the league fined Edwards $75,000 for saying of the referees, “They’re f****** terrible.”
That message didn’t sink in, either. After draining a game-winner Friday night to cap a 16-point comeback to beat the Rockets, Edwards said during a televised interview, “I’m like, s***, I’m going for the win. Like Gilbert Arenas said, I don’t do overtime, so f*** it.”
Sunday, the league fined Edwards $100,000 for “using profane language during a live television interview… The fine amount is based in part on Edwards’ history of using profane language during media interviews.”
That’s $200,000 in fines in just a couple of weeks.
Edwards’ unfiltered personality is part of why we can’t take our eyes off him, Edwards is going to be Edwards. However, at some point he’ll want to stop writing checks to the league, and with that stop cursing during television interviews. Or, at least, curse less.
