Former Brentford defender set to swap Anderlecht for LA Galaxy after just six months

According to Bold, Anderlecht’s summer signing Mathias Zanka Jørgensen is set to leave the club in January. The 34-year-old former Brentford defender joined the club on a free in the summer, signing a one year deal. However, this looks set to end prematurely, with LA Galaxy having agreed a deal to bring Zanka to the MLS. During his time at Anderlecht the experienced Danish defender was much maligned by fans, although his performances had slightly improved of late. Zanka looks set to sign a two-year deal with the MLS club.

Losing Zanka will leave Anderlecht light at the back once again. They have managed to recover Jan Vertonghen, but given his age and recent injury record, they cannot rely on him to remain fit for the rest of the season. If the side have any hopes of challenging for the title, they will need to strengthen in defence during the winter. They are set to make their first signing imminently, with young Mexican winger Cesar Huerta on his way to Belgium to join up with the side.
