Norfolk man charged in fatal shooting at Virginia Beach business

Date:

VIRGINIA BEACH — A 22-year-old Norfolk man has been charged with fatally shooting another man Monday at a Virginia Beach business.

The incident happened shortly after noon at a business in the 5400 block of Virginia Beach Boulevard, according to a release from Virginia Beach police. Lequan Cherry, 26, of Norfolk, was found dead at the scene. The release didn’t identify the business, and police didn’t immediately respond Thursday to a request for more information.

Detectives obtained a description of the suspect and his vehicle, and broadcasted the information, the release said. The department searched a license plate reader database for information about the vehicle, and identified locations it had been seen.

A Norfolk police officer who heard the broadcast found the vehicle in one of its recurring locations and attempted a traffic stop. The driver of the vehicle fled, but was later stopped in Virginia Beach, the release said.

Jeremiah Quinones was taken into custody less than an hour after the initial call came in, police said. Quinones has been charged with first-degree murder, malicious wounding and two counts of using a firearm to commit a felony. He’s being held without bond in the city jail.
