A small plane crashed onto the roof of a building on the 400 block of C Street Northwest in Auburn on Thursday, Washington, according to Valley Regional Fire Authority. A single man aboard the plane has died, the Auburn Police Department reported on X. The incident took place just before 12:30 p.m.

“VRFA crews are responding to reports of a small plane that crashed onto the roof of a building in the 400 block of C St. NW. Please avoid the area. A PIO is in route,” the Valley Regional Fire Authority said on X (formerly Twitter).

The police department also disclosed that officers have been deployed, and are currently on the scene.

According to KING 5, the plane crashed through the roof of the building. The structure was occupied at the time of the crash. However, a spokesperson for VFR revealed that none of the employees inside reported any injuries.

The spokesperson also revealed that a little fuel leaked into the building. This prompted HAZMAT crews to tend to the scene.

A similar incident took place in March, wherein an aircraft went down at the dead end of Watson Street, Opelika, during a training flight. The aircraft was owned by Auburn University. Officials disclosed that the crash took place approximately 2,000 feet east of the runway. The plane was taking off from Auburn University Regional Airport.

The sole occupant of the aircraft was a student pilot. The occupant sustained non-life threatening injuries. They were subsequently taken to the hospital for further check-up. The student was later treated and released from East Alabama Medical Center.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) was immediately notified of the crash, prompting investigations. The university also pointed out that the crashed plane was owned and insured by Auburn University. They reiterated their commitment to transparency, and vowed to cooperate with the investigations.

Investigations into the incident continue, and authorities are yet to disclose the identity of the man aboard the plane. It remains to be seen what actually happened prior to the plane going down.
