Tennessee basketball remains the No. 1 team in the Jan. 6 AP Poll, retaining the top-spot in the poll for the fifth straight week.

The Vols are now amidst their longest stretch as the No. 1 team in the country in program history. Tennessee was the No. 1 team in the country for one week during the 2007-08 season and for four weeks during the 2018-19 season.

Tennessee is one of 10 SEC teams in this week’s AP Poll along with No. 2 Auburn, No. 5 Alabama, No. 6 Kentucky, No. 8 Florida, No. 10 Texas A&M, No. 14 Mississippi State, No. 17 Oklahoma and No. 23 Ole Miss.

Rick Barnes’ 10th Tennessee team went 2-0 last week, defeating Norfolk State 67-52 in its final non conference game before torching then-No. 23 Arkansas 76-52 in its SEC opener in Knoxville. Tennessee’s top players were fantastic in the commanding victory over the Razorbacks.

Tennessee is the last remaining undefeated team in the country after Florida lost to Kentucky in its SEC opener and Alabama routed Oklahoma in Tuscaloosa.
