Inter Milan President Beppe Marotta is hoping that the Supercoppa Italiana will be the first trophy he lifts as Nerazzurri President.
Marotta spoke to Italian broadcaster SportMediaset, via FCInterNews, ahead of today’s Supercoppa final against AC Milan. He also gave his thoughts on Marcus Thuram’s absence from the starting eleven.
Marotta has won no shortage of trophies with Inter since he arrived in 2018.
With the 67-year-old as the CEO of Sport, the Nerazzurri have won the Serie A title twice, the Coppa Italia twice, and the Supercoppa Italiana on three occasions.
Meanwhile, Inter have also reached the finals of the Europa League and the Champions League with Marotta at the helm.
Marotta has certainly played a key role in all of these successes. He has been the architect of Inter’s squad and transfer policy in his role of CEO.
However, Marotta has not been President during any of these successes.
Rather, the veteran executive only took on that role in May of this year, when Oaktree Capital took over.
Now, though, Inter have the chance to compete for a trophy with Marotta as President.
Marotta Hoping Supercoppa Italiana His First Trophy As Inter President
Of the prospect of winning his first trophy as Inter President, Marotta admitted that “it makes me a bit more excited.”
“It would be great,” the 67-year-old added.
“But we know that it won’t be easy. However, for me it would undoubtedly be a great thing, and I hope we can reach that objective.”
Meanwhile, Marotta gave his thoughts on the absence of Marcus Thuram from Inter’s starting eleven this evening.
“We have a squad of 24 players,” noted the Inter President. “We like to think of them as starters, and co-starters.”
“Thuram’s quality is certainly very high,” Marotta said. “But the quality of the entire team is high as well, and whoever takes his place will certainly do the best they can to live up to the job.”
“The team can’t ever depend on an individual player,” the Nerazzurri President insisted. “But on the collective.”
Meanwhile, of facing Milan, Marotta said that “We know that beating Juventus certainly gave them a lot of motivation.”
“It galvanized them,” he noted.
“We’re aware that that will be a key element of the match,” Marotta said.
