Our Daily Bread opens in Hartford

HARTFORD — Our Daily Bread, a new bakery and coffee shop, opened its doors at 758 Grand Ave. in Hartford on Friday, giving customers a taste of their fresh bread and other treats.

The business is run by Corinne Maier and her daughter, Helen Burleigh. According to Maier, their families relocated to the area about 3 years ago, and the two wanted to find something they could do as a family. The result was Our Daily Bread.

“I think that we’ve always been interested in running our own business,” said Maier. “We wanted to share good food with good ingredients, great coffee, really fun whole foods and stuff like that.”

The final decision to open the bakery came after the two had a trial run of sorts at a local farmers market, where their stock sold out. With that, they decided that opening this establishment was a genuine possibility. So they contacted the owner of the property, got the space, and fixed it up.

After a long process of getting things ready, they opened to the public for their soft launch Friday. Even just a few hours into their first day, Maier praised how supportive the community was to their business and them as community members.

“They’ve all been super accessible, super supportive and welcoming,” said Maier. “Being welcomed into the community and having people be excited is really fun.”

Within the first hour, they were already sold out of the bread they had prepared for the day, a testament to the support the community had shown them.

Maier said the business is doing its part to give back to the community, offering opportunities for local businesses to display and sell their products. This includes chocolates, soaps, crochet arts and more.

“I’m proud to represent some tasty local coffee and some opportunities for local businesses,” said Maier. “Just kind of continuing to collect some great local stuff to offer here, too, has been really fun.”

Our Daily Bread is set to be open Tuesday through Saturday from 7 a.m. until 3 p.m. For more information about Our Daily Bread and to stay up-to-date on the happenings there, follow their Facebook page at tinyurl.com/3nbdy46y or visit their website at ourdailybread-store.com.
