In what was a brilliant outing for Indian-origin USA pacer Saurabh Netravalkar at the T20 World Cup, he has followed that up with a match-winning performance for the Washington Freedom in the Major League Cricket. He picked up 3/24 in four overs as he dismissed MI New York’s Kieron Pollard (3 off 6), Rashid Khan (31 off 15) and Anrich Nortje (14 off 9).

As a result of Netravalkar’s three-wicket haul, MI were restricted to 154/9 in their allotted 20 overs. In reply, Washington were cruising for a victory over New York at 55/1 after 7.4 overs when rain came to interrupt the match and they were adjudged as winners, as they were just four runs ahead on DLS.

Netravalkar has been making a rapid rise in the cricketing fraternity ever since his T20 World Cup heroics for USA. He finished as the highest wicket-taker for his team in the marquee event with six wickets to his name from as many innings at an average of 20.83.

Netravalkar rose to prominence after defending 18 runs against Pakistan in a Super Over and helped his side register a historic victory over Babar Azam‘s team. He also went on to dismiss ace India batter Virat Kohli for a golden duck and Rohit Sharma during USA’s group stage encounter with India.
Netravalkar was born in Mumbai and played for India in the 2010 U-19 World Cup. He was an age-group teammate of India batter Suryakumar Yadav.

In the match between New York and Washington, Steve Smith put MI in to bat. The team could never really get going as no partnerships were made in the middle, thanks to Netravalkar’s and allrounder Justin Dill’s three wickets.

After losing Travis Head in the second over of the chase to medium-pacer Ehsan Adil, Smith and Andries Gous built an unbeaten 52-run partnership for the second wicket before rain intervened.
