LITTLE HOCKING — One person was taken to the hospital after a house fire early Friday morning.

The Little Hocking Volunteer Fire Department responded to a report of a fire shortly after 1 a.m. Friday at a two-story, single-family dwelling in the 4000 block of School House Road near Arrowhead Road, Chief Mike Chevalier said. Occupants were able to get out of the house prior to firefighters’ arrival.

The Belpre and Dunham volunteer fire departments also responded to the scene.

“The house was still standing but had major damage,” Chevalier said. “It’s not livable right now.”

One person initially refused medical treatment but someone was later taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, Chevalier said.

It’s believed the fire started in the vicinity of a gas grill outside that was not properly shut off, the chief said.
