MARIETTA — Emergency medical technician basic training has been added to a job training program at the Washington County Career Center.

The training is available to individuals 18 and older who do not possess a high school diploma or GED.

“This addition gives those without a diploma one more in-demand job area to receive training, all at no cost,” said Ashli Diamond, Aspire program coordinator. “Our program supports individuals as young as 18, providing them with a pathway to success. We will work with them through every step of the process.”

The next 16-week EMT Basic class begins Sept. 16 with classes scheduled 5-9:30 p.m. Monday and Wednesday and eight classes from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturdays.

After successfully completing the class, the graduate is eligible to take the National Registry Cognitive and Practical Skills Exam. After passing the exam, they will become a certified national registry and Ohio emergency medical technician.

Aspire provides three ways to help Ohio residents who did not complete high school earn their Ohio high school diploma.

One of these pathways is the Adult Diploma program, a free initiative offering job training and a route to obtaining a high school diploma through ACT WorkKeys scores. Students can choose the training option that best suits their career goals.

The training options available through the ASPIRE Program include state-tested nursing assistant, EMT Basic, fiberoptic technician, phlebotomy, medical assistant, medical billing and coding, CDL Class A, HVAC/R, business office skills specialist and welding.

More information about the ASPIRE Program is available online at www.thecareercenter.net or by contacting Ashli Diamond at 740-885-5990.
