New England Patriots at Washington Commanders: How to watch NFL preseason’s final game

Date:

The New England Patriots and Washington Commanders will wrap up the NFL preseason with an 8 p.m. EDT game on Sunday.

You can watch on NBC and live stream on fubo TV (FREE trial), Sling TV (discount) and DirecTV Stream (FREE trial and discount).

One aim for the Commanders will be determining who they will keep at wide receiver following the trade Thursday of Jahan Dotson to the Eagles.

Widely considered roster locks like Terry McLaurin, Dyami Brown and Luke McCaffrey won’t play much, if at all on Sunday, meaning players like Brycen Tremayne, Kazmeir Allen, Mitchell Tinsley and even Martavis Bryant should have ample snaps throughout the night.

Washington also will be trying to land on a third running back behind Brian Robinson Jr. and Austin Ekeler.

There are a few players in the running for that spot on the depth chart, including 2023 sixth-round pick Chris Rodriguez, veteran Jeremy McNichols and undrafted free agent Michael Wiley. Rodriguez brings a physical style and solid work ethic, but McNichols has more experience as a pass-catcher. Wiley has flashed more consistently in the preseason, scoring a touchdown against the Jets.

This will be the Patriots’ first prime-time preseason game since hosting Tampa Bay in Week 3 of the 2013 preseason.

Among the players under the microscope will be quarterback Drake Maye, who saw his snaps jump from six to 25 in his second preseason game and should be expected to match a similar total in Washington. That positive performance against the Eagles helped spark a solid week of practice from Maye, as he continues to look more comfortable running a pro offense while still delivering some well-placed deep balls.

Kevin Harris and JaMycal Hasty have bee a nice backup one-two punch this preseason, with Harris grinding out the tough yards and Hasty showing he could be an effective receiving back in the offense. There’s little question that Rhamondre Stevenson and Antonio Gibson are atop the depth chart for those two roles, but at least one other back should get some rotational carries once the regular season arrives. It could be Harris, Hasty or both.
