ESPN pundit says he never wants to see €30m player feature for Barcelona again

FC Barcelona has managed to kick off their season in flawless fashion with three wins from three games. For La Blaugrana, this is among their best starts ever to any singular La Liga campaign. Instead of dropping points, Barcelona have showcased that they are up for the fight this time around.

Consequently, the Catalan giants have also been getting praise for their perfect start, and much of it has also been directed towards Hansi Flick’s management of game situations. However, there is one selection being made by Flick in his games that has recently been critiqued by a certain French pundit.

During the latest edition of the Gab & Juls Show after the recent Barcelona victory, a podcast that is led by Italian journalist Gabriele Marcotti and French sports journalist Julien Laurens, the latter seemed to express that Flick’s continued faith in Spanish forward Ferran Torres did not sit well with him and that as long as the club has Dani Olmo available, he never wants to see the former Manchester City forward in the team again:

“For sure, I never want to see Ferran Torres again in this team. But I guess he won’t play now that Dani Olmo can play.”

On the other hand, his co-host did try to defend the addition of Torres into the team. From his perspective, the player’s runs and his workrate may exactly be what Hansi Flick needs of him and perhaps that is the reason that Barcelona continues to count on him.

However, Laurens did manage to sneak in another joke regarding the €30 million-rated player later on saying that perhaps beyond the starting lineups of the likes of Robert Lewandowski, Lamine Yamal, Raphinha, Dani Olmo, and potentially even Gavi, Torres may find a spot for himself in some rather specific games:

“And then Ferran Torres can play in the Copa Del Ray against some Third Division team or something.”

Statistically, however, it is true that Ferran Torres has been the least impactful forward in terms of goals at least. The likes of Lewandowski, Yamal, Olmo, and Raphinha have all managed to contribute to goals in some form or other already, but Torres is yet to have any direct influence.
