13-year-old Knoxville student arrested, faces charge of making a threat of mass violence

Date:

A 13-year-old student was arrested after the Knoxville Police Department said they received a report he threatened to bring a gun to Ridgedale School. He faces a charge of making a threat of mass violence.

Police say the student threatened to shoot someone at the school. Police agencies worked together to identify and locate the student, whom they did not name because he is a minor.

The student was interviewed Aug. 28 and arrested at his home, according to a KPD news release.

“We will have zero tolerance for those who make threats of violence towards our schools,” Chief Paul Noel said in a news release. “I am grateful for the quick intervention of our officers and law enforcement partners after being notified of this threat.”
