Men’s basketball back to work this fall – Binghamton University Athletics

Date:

VESTAL, N.Y. – Binghamton men’s basketball is back to the court this fall and coach Levell Sanders is blending five newcomers with his returning group of nine letterwinners.

The Bearcats raised their win total for the third straight season with a 15-win mark in 2023-24. Binghamton tied for fourth place in the America East (7-9) and were eligible for a postseason invitation before late-season injuries and a quarterfinal tournament setback closed the season. The Bearcats finished the season by winning seven of their last 11 games. Sanders’ program is one of just three America East schools (Vermont, UNH) to win seven or more conference games in each of the last three years.

Graduate guard Tymu Chenery is back for his second season with Binghamton. He averaged 14.9 points on 51% shooting last year. Senior forward Nehemiah Benson returns after averaging 10.4 points on 61% efficiency. Sophomore forward Gavin Walsh will see increased minutes after earning a spot on the America East All-Rookie Team.

Among the key newcomers is graduate forward Ben Callahan-Gold, who averaged 16.0 points and 6.1 rebounds for NCAA Division III semifinalist Trinity (Conn.). Sophomore point guard Jayden Lemond comes to campus from William & Mary and should be in the mix to run the offense.

The Bearcats will host Queens in an exhibition game on Oct. 30 before opening their season at Penn State on Nov. 4. The full non-conference schedule will be released in early September.
