NEW DELHI: England’s superstar batter Joe Root has etched his name in the record books on Saturday during the second Test against Sri Lanka at Lord’s.
Here are a few big records Root set with his twin centuries in the match:
England’s top century-maker: Root scored his 34th Test century, surpassing Alastair Cook to become the highest century-maker for England in Test cricket.This feat has put him among the cricketing legends, only behind Sachin Tendulkar, Jacques Kallis, Ricky Ponting, Kumar Sangakkara, and Rahul Dravid in terms of centuries.
Twin hundreds at Lord’s: Root is also one of the few players who have scored centuries in both innings of a Test at Lord’s. He joins the likes of George Headley, Graham Gooch, and Michael Vaughan.

Most runs at Lord’s: With these achievements, Root now holds the record for the most runs scored in Test matches at Lord’s. He has accumulated 2022 runs, overtaking Graham Gooch’s record of 2015 runs at the venue. This puts him fifth on the list of highest aggregates at a single venue in Test cricket.

Most runs in England: Root’s tally of Test runs at home stands at 6733. This makes him the leading run-getter in Tests played in England and Wales, surpassing Cook’s 6568 runs.

Fifty hundreds: Root also made his 50th international century, with 34 in Tests and 16 in One Day Internationals (ODIs). He is the first England cricketer to reach this milestone and the ninth overall in international cricket.
200 catches: Additionally, Root reached 200 catches in Test cricket during the Lord’s Test. He caught Nishan Madushka and Pathum Nissanka, tying him with Jacques Kallis for the third most catches by a non-wicketkeeper. He is only ten catches behind the leader, Rahul Dravid.
Fastest hundred: Root’s second-innings century, off just 111 balls, was his fastest ever. His previous quickest century took 116 balls against New Zealand at Trent Bridge in 2022.
