Ajax made deadline day move for Mike Trésor but failed to match Burnley’s high asking price

Transfer deadline day in the Netherlands is officially over and all the secrets are starting to spill. According to Voetbal International, Ajax made a last-minute move for Burnley’s Mike Trésor, but failed in their attempt as the Clarets demanded far too much money. The Amsterdam club reportedly set their sights on Trésor before Steven Bergwijn completed his move to Al-Ittihad, which meant it was nearly impossible for the club to sign the Belgian.

Mike Trésor made the move to Burnley last summer for around €18m, but after featuring just 16 times for the Clarets his future has been uncertain. Prior to his time at Turf Moor, the two-time Belgium international won the 23/24 Player of the Year award in the Belgian Pro League following an incredible campaign with Genk. He registered 25 assists in a single season whilst also netting nine times.

It’s unknown how much Burnley wanted for the Belgian attacker, but Ajax immediately ended their pursuit after discovering the demands. The Amsterdam side have missed out on Mike Trésor, but are just about to secure the services of Southampton star Kamaldeen Sulemana, who’s set to be announced as a new loan signing with the option to make the deal permanent.
