A top-10 Class of 2026 prospect will visit the UNC basketball program

Date:

Widely considered a top-10 prospect in the Class of 2026, Jordan Smith Jr. is not surprisingly heavily recruited by some of the top programs in the country.

A Fairfax, Virginia native, the rising junior has plenty of interest from schools within the state of North Carolina, including the UNC basketball program. According to Colby Giacubeno, the 6-foot-3 shooting guard plans to make an unofficial visit to Chapel Hill this fall.

While he’ll visit fellow ACC schools Syracuse and Duke, Smith Jr. has scheduled an unofficial visit to North Carolina on October 5-6. That same weekend, the UNC football program will host Pittsburgh in conference action, as it’s possible that Smith Jr. will head to Kenan Stadium for the contest.

The UNC basketball program extended an offer on July 22, and they’ve been heavily recruiting him ever since. Currently, 247Sports Composite tabs him as a five-star recruit and a top-10 prospect. He is regarded as the top player from the state of Virginia and the No. 8-ranked player nationally. While the focus right now is on the Class of 2025, don’t be surprised to see more news about the Class of 2026 over the next couple of months as programs, such as the UNC basketball program, aim to set up their future rosters with top-tier talents.

At this point, it appears that the Tar Heels will have to beat rival Duke in this recruitment, as Smith Jr.’s high school, Paul VI Catholic, has a pipeline of players who have eventually made their way to Durham.

Hubert Davis and the UNC basketball program hope that the trend doesn’t continue any longer.
