‘Complicated and Desperate Situation’ – Journalist Reveals Napoli Loanee Desired Chelsea, PSG

Date:

Paris Saint-Germain was linked with Victor Osimhen all summer, but the Nigerian striker never made the move to the French capital. Moreover, he didn’t get a high-profile move as the Chelsea door closed on the final day of the summer transfer window.

Nonetheless, the striker had to settle for a move to Galatasaray as the Nigerian goal scorer arrived at the Turkish side on loan. However, Osimhen and even Napoli were hoping for a big-time transfer that never came, as one journalist says.

“What happened with Osimhen is that everyone missed a huge opportunity,” Francesco Modugno said on Radio Marte (h/t Le10Sport). “Everyone wanted to make a big deal, from De Laurentiis to Victor himself. Some teams wanted to take advantage of a complicated and desperate situation.

“For Napoli, it was almost impossible to maintain his salary two years before the end of his contract. A great opportunity was missed. The footballer would have agreed to go to Saudi Arabia, even though it wasn’t his preferred destination. He wanted PSG, he would have accepted Chelsea as well, but not at a salary lower than his current one.”

It’s not to say the Parisians weren’t keen on the 25-year-old to bolster their attack with Kylian Mbappé leaving this past summer as L’ÉQUIPE reported that some at PSG were interested in going after Osimhen, particularly after Gonçalo Ramos’ injury.

However, the club ultimately decided against it, with the French outlet noting that Luis Enrique wasn’t in favor of the move, believing that Osimhen didn’t align with his vision and style.
