Chelsea most expensive team in history, Juventus only Italian in top 10

Date:

Chelsea have shattered all known records with the most expensively assembled team in history this season, but only Juventus make it into the top 10 from Italy.

The CIES Football Observatory analysed the figures and put together a list of the money in transfer fees to recruit their current squad members, both permanently and on loan.

With a bloated squad at his disposal, it is hardly a surprise that Enzo Maresca’s Chelsea are top of the pile, having cost €1.28 billion to put together including add-ons.

No team in history has ever cost this much to assemble.

Chelsea and Premier League dominate list of expensive deals

Despite a downturn in the fees Premier League clubs were splashing out in recent years, they still make up seven of the top 10 most expensive sides.

Manchester United and Manchester City complete the podium at €1.038 billion and €1.017 billion respectively.

Arsenal on €798m and Tottenham Hotspur at €787m keep the EPL trend going, interrupted only by PSG in sixth position with €772m.

Liverpool cost €735m, Real Madrid €720m and Juventus are the most expensive team in Italy, assembled at a cost of €626m after their spending spree this summer – still less than Newcastle United on €683m – which puts them in 10th place overall.

The next costliest Serie A side is Napoli at €394m, then Milan on €375m and Inter €329m.

Roma are all the way down on €261m and Atalanta just €258m, Fiorentina €196m, Bologna €171m and Lazio €161m.
