Major League Soccer will try to poach Antoine Griezmann again for next summer

Date:

Atletico Madrid star Antoine Griezmann has made no secret of his desire to play in the United States in the final stage of his career, and it seems the only question is when it will happen. Linked to Los Angeles FC this summer, a move to Major League Soccer will be an option for him again next year.

Matteo Moretto has told Fabrizio Romano’s Daily Briefing that a MLS club will try to tempt him to the States again next summer, but that Atletico Madrid remain in talks to extend his deal. Currently his contract runs until 2026, but the 33-year-old will have to make a decision on whether to stay or leave. Los Rojiblancos will be open to a move if he wants to leave, but equally will be happy to keep hold of him if he is keen to remain at the club.

Griezmann remains the chief orchestrator of Atletico’s attack so far, but his below-par Euro 2024 did have some asking whether age was starting to catch up with him. Los Colchoneros likely already have their long-term replacement in Julian Alvarez in terms of a marquee signing, and while he remains at the level he showed last season, there seems little reason for them to change his status.
