PSG, Real Madrid Star’s Financial Dispute Poised for ‘Courtroom Battle’, Expert Predicts

Date:

Kylian Mbappé and Paris Saint-Germain have moved on to new chapters this summer, but they’re still entangled in a financial dispute. The latest update is that they’re set to meet with a legal committee to sort things out.

According to a report from Le Monde last month, Mbappé is still waiting for the €55 million owed to him under his PSG contract. The French star has now taken the issue to the French Professional Football League (LFP) legal committee and brought UEFA into the mix via the French Football Federation (FFF).

Le Monde also noted that Mbappé initially approached the LFP’s legal committee on August 8, citing article 259 of France’s professional football charter. This article states that clubs must pay players’ wages by the last day of each month at the latest, following ordinary legal conditions.

Amid the ongoing dispute, PSG Talk contributor and Chief editor of FootballTransfers.com Robin Bairner noted that if both sides dig their heels, this situation can only be resolved in court.

“Mbappé and PSG both appear to be entrenched in their positions and are unwilling to give an inch,” Bairner wrote in his latest PSG Talk Extra Time column. “Neither party wants the embarrassment of this battle winding up in court, yet neither wants the ignominy of backing down.

“The longer the dispute drags on, though, the greater the likelihood of a courtroom battle is, while the relationship between Mbappé and PSG becomes apparently ever more sour.”
