‘Devastating’: Fever’s Caitlin Clark on Angel Reese’s season-ending wrist injury

Date:

INDIANAPOLIS — Caitlin Clark had some high praise for fellow rookie Angel Reese, who announced on Tuesday night she is out for the season with a wrist injury.

Reese played 34 games for the Chicago Sky in her rookie season, averaging 13.6 points and a league-leading 13.1 rebounds per game this season. Her 13.1 rebounds per game will likely stand as the highest single-season per-game average in WNBA history.

Clark and Reese played against each other four times this season, with the Fever going 3-1 in those games. Of all the times Clark has played her, both in college and in the WNBA, what stands out is Reese’s high motor.

“For me, getting to play against her, like her motor is up there, if not the best in the league,” Clark said. “She just doesn’t stop working. … I thought she had a tremendous year, and I thought she came to the league and really did what she’s done well her entire career, as long as I’ve known her. So it’s definitely devastating. That’s never anything you want to see from a player.”

Reese is the second rookie in this class to have a season-ending injury, joining Sparks rookie Cameron Brink, who tore her ACL in June.

Reese did say she still plans to play in Unrivaled, a new 3×3 league led by Napheesa Collier and Breanna Stewart, in Miami in January. But for the rest of the WNBA season, she won’t be able to see the floor.

“It’s definitely sad anytime you see anybody go down with an injury, especially people that you came into this league with,” Clark said. “Whether it was Cam, Angel, and especially Angel, you want to see her finish out this year. Obviously, she’s had a historic year, and she’s done some incredible things.”
