Girls tennis roundup: Minnewaska Lakers win 3 at Pine City

Sep. 8—PINE CITY — The Minnewaska girls tennis team went a perfect 3-0 at the Pine City quadrangular on Saturday.

The Lakers secured wins over New London-Spicer (7-0), Staples-Motley (4-3) and host Pine City (4-3).

Against the Wildcats, Minnewaska’s No. 1 doubles team of Avarie Uhde and Rachel Rankin won a three-set match over Jadyn Proehl and Adilyn Nelson, 6-2, 4-6, 10-6. At No. 3 doubles, the Lakers’ Katie Sorenson and Mckenna Uhde won a tight first set before securing the 7-5, 6-4 victory against Olivia Paffrath and Maddi Prentice.

Minnewaska’s doubles teams were a perfect 3-0 in a win over Staples-Motley at Pine City.

Two of the doubles wins came in three sets. The Lakers’ No. 2 duo of Katy Vold and Avarie Uhde rebounded from a first-set loss to Madison Perius and Natalie Hanson, 4-6, 6-0, 10-5. Minnewaska’s Norah Vanzee and Mckenna Uhde pulled off that same feat at No. 3 doubles, beating Andrea Digiovanni and Charlie Noska, 2-6, 6-2, 10-5.

Minnewaska’s Nos. 1 and 2 doubles teams clinched three-set victories in the Lakers’ win over host Pine City.

The No. 1 doubles team of Megan Thorfinnson and Avarie Uhde beat Vivian Lahti and Kate Unverzagt, 2-6, 6-0, 12-10. Then at No. 2 doubles, Katy Vold and Addy Heid secured a 6-2, 4-6, 11-9 win over Lily Rootkie and Samantha Root.

New London-Spicer was 3-0 in doubles play in a loss to Staples-Motley in Pine City.

The Wildcats’ Heidi Taunton and Averie Turner won 6-1, 6-7 (1), 11-9 over Jaida Holst and Natalie Hanson at No. 2 doubles. The No. 3 duo of Olivia Paffrath and Erin Pederson also won in three sets, beating Andrea Digiovanni and Charlie Noska, 2-6, 6-3, 10-7.

Heidi Taunton and Averie Turner claimed New London-Spicer’s lone win over host Pine City.

Competing at No. 2 doubles, Taunton and Turner beat Lily Rootkie and Samantha Root, 6-1, 6-3.

The host St. Cloud Crush claimed a victory over Litchfield at St. Cloud Tech High School.

Isla Dille and Maya Wuotila each won singles matches for the Dragons. Dille claimed No. 1 singles in three sets against Paige Tarrolly, 6-1, 1-6, 10-7. Wuotila beat Sophia Erickson at No. 2 singles, 6-4, 6-3.

All three of Litchfield’s wins came in singles in a team loss to Buffalo at St. Cloud Tech High School.

Isla Dille won No. 1 singles for the Dragons, beating Lauren Berg 6-1, 6-2. Emma Wuotila added a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Kate Siemek at No. 3 singles. Marcella Bruning claimed victory at No. 4 singles.
