Date:

Community School of Naples golfer Isabella Michetti

Each week during the school year the Naples Daily News selects athletes that stood out the week before based on a combination of coach reports and school nominations sent to sports@naplesnews.com and our coverage. Those athletes are put in a poll each Monday on naplesnews.com and you, our readers, vote on who you think did it best. The winners of the Naples Daily News Athlete of the Week poll sponsored by Elevate Home Services receive a T-shirt provided by BSN Sports and a tote bag provided by USA Today High School Sports Awards. To get to know our winners better, the Naples Daily News will have a question-and-answer session with each athlete weekly.

The Naples Daily News Athlete of the Week sponsored by Elevate Home Services for Aug. 26-31 was Community School of Naples golfer Isabella Michetti. Michetti captured 7,153 votes of the 17,977 cast or 39.79%. To be selected for the poll, she led CSN with a 33 to help lead the girls’ golf team to a first-place finish at the St. John Neumann Invitational.

Question: How’d you get into golfing?

Michetti: I got into golfing through a summer camp I participated in when I was 5. It was a tennis, golf, and swimming camp and I fell in love with the game. I continued to participate in these camps and eventually started to play competitively at the age of 7.

What’s been the highlight of your golfing career?

Michetti: I have a few highlights of my golf career. My first highlight is winning districts as an eighth grader last season. My second, although I did not win regionals, is the birdie I made on the last hole of regionals to help CSN win by one stroke. My last highlight is shooting my first sub-70 round last week at the St. John Neumann Invitational.

What’s some advice you’d give to someone 10 or so years younger than you?

Michetti: Advice that I would give someone 10 years younger than me is to find a sport or a hobby that you love and never give up on striving to be the best you can be.

What’s a course you’ve never played before but want to?

Michetti: A course that I have never played before but would like to is Pebble Beach in California because of its beauty and history of being one of the most notable courses for hosting majors for both the PGA and LPGA.

If you weren’t playing golf, what sport would you play and why?

Michetti: If I was not playing golf I would probably be playing volleyball because I find it very enjoyable, and my friends and I will sometimes play it in our free time.
